She has guided the strategic planning for Santa Monica’s award-winning 2010 General Plan, lecturing on this groundbreaking approach at UC Berkeley, UCLA and throughout California. Her Master Planning efforts have resulted in the transition of an aging industrial area into a mixed-use creative arts center in Santa Monica, Ca., the creation of a new Urban Center for 230 acres/17 million square feet of transit-oriented development in Alexandria, Va., and the reconstruction of the earthquake-damaged downtown Santa Cruz, Ca. Director of Planning, Zoning and Development City of Alexandria, Virginia November 2000 to September 2006 Responsible for management and direction of land use planning, zoning and development in Alexandria, Virginia. Directed major planning effort for the 230 acres known as Eisenhower East, created a new Town Center with innovative transit-oriented development incentives and millions of square feet of office, retail and housing. Directed market analysis and structured retail strategies for older commercial corridors. Director of Community Development City of Santa Cruz, California September 1996 to November 2000 Managed and implemented land use planning, zoning, economic & community development, housing, environmental review and building & safety. Directed downtown commercial and retail development strategy to rebuild earthquake-devastated downtown core.
