January 2018 Howard S. Biel Howard Biel is Senior Vice President at ECHO Realty, a Pittsburgh-based, privately-held, high quality grocery-anchored community center and mixed-use development and investment company. ECHO is related to the Giant Eagle supermarket operation which dominates grocery market share in Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio. Biel concentrates upon the acquisition and development of targeted centers ranging from New York to South Florida, each of which demonstrates better demographic locations, top grocery store representation, and complementary mix of creditworthy anchors, majors, and specialty store space. Previous positions held were Senior Managing Partner for Faison Enterprises where he directed all acquisition and development activity for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Divisions; Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer for Federal Realty Investment Trust where he led all development, leasing, and property management activity; Executive Vice President for Western Development in charge of all real estate development, leasing and property management; and Senior Vice President of Development at the Edward J. DeBartolo Corporation where he was responsible for the planning and development of regional malls and urban mixed-use programs. Howard received a B.A. in Urban and Economic Geography at Miami University, and a M.A. and Ph.D. in Urban/Economic Geography and Transportation Planning at The Ohio State University.
