Daniel Lobo

Biografía: Daniel Lobo is the Director, Honors & Awards, at the American Institute of Architects. He manages the successful direction, strategic planning, management, and fulfillment of all AIA national awards programs, which include the Honors Program (Gold Medal, Architecture Firm, Topaz Medallion), Membership Honors programs (Fellowship, Honorary Fellowship and Honorary Membership), Institute Honors for Professional and Collaborative Achievement (Thomas Jefferson, Associates, Collaborative Achievement, Kemper and Whitney Young) and Young Architects; the Institute Honors programs (Architecture, Interior Architecture, Regional and Urban Design and Twenty-five Year award), co-sponsored awards (AIA Housing, AIA/HUD Secretary’s Awards, AIA/ALA Library Building Awards), and also provides support for Knowledge Community awards programs. Daniel is an urban planning and design professional with over eighteen years of experience dedicated to built environment initiatives, an extensive track record in project management, community participation, sustainable neighborhood development, disaster preparedness and response, cultural engagement, freelance reporting, and cultural proposals. Prior to joining AIA, Daniel was the Senior Director, Awards, at the Urban Land Institute where he was responsible for coordinating and managing the ULI portfolio of awards and competitions including among others the Global Awards for Excellence, the Hines Student Competition, the Urban Open Space Award, and the J.C. Nichols Prize for Visionaries in Urban Development, as well as providing management support for selected initiatives, and Advisory Services panels. Earlier in his career he worked as project manager for the Center for Communities by Design at the American Institute of Architects, as Urban Designer at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, and as an independent consultant for several urban culture and research initiatives. He holds a MSc City Design and Social Science from the London School of Economics, and a BA (Hons) from the School of Architecture and Interior Design at London Metropolitan University.
