Jill Medvedow

Biografía: Jill Medvedow joined the ICA in 1998 and has transformed the ICA into one of the nation’s most prominent museums of contemporary art, and a national and global destination. Under Medvedow’s leadership, the ICA opened its iconic Diller Scofidio + Renfro building in 2006. Since then, the ICA has dramatically shaped the landscape for contemporary art in Boston, building a community of collectors, curators, philanthropists, educators, teens, artists and audiences. In June 2018, Medvedow opened the ICA Watershed, transforming a condemned former copper pipe factory across Boston Harbor into a new cultural asset. As a champion of art and civic life, Medvedow is committed to nurturing artistic experimentation and amplifying artists’ voices; promoting knowledge and lifelong learning; providing access to and equity in the arts; and sharing the conviction that art is essential to individual happiness, social justice and a healthy society. Central to her vision, she has created a national model for teen arts education, investing in urban adolescents as future leaders, artists and electorate. With more than 7,000 teens participating in ICA teen education programs annually, this initiative received a National Arts and Humanities Youth Program award from the White House in 2012. Medvedow sits on the Boston Public School Arts Advisory Board, is the Chair of Boston After School and Beyond, and a Trustee of the Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD). Previously Medvedow served as Chair of Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick’s Working Group on the Creative Economy. She is the subject of an MIT Sloan School of Management Case Study on Leadership and Risk. Medvedow is the recipient of the Lydia Goodhue Award from the Boston Harbor Association; the Women in Design Award of Excellence from the Boston Society of Architects; and the Pinnacle Award from the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce.
