Biografía:
Rick Tollakson is responsible for the strategic operations for Hubbell Realty Company and its multiple subsidiaries including Hubbell Apartment Living, CBRE/Hubbell Commercial, Hubbell Homes, Hubbell Construction Services, Hubbell Land Development, Hubbell Commercial Development and Hubbell Commercial Property Management. Rick joined Hubbell Realty Company in 1984 and was promoted to President and CEO in 2004. Rick graduated from Iowa State University, 1976, with a BS in Construction Engineering and from the University of Iowa, 1982, with a MBA. Rick started his career as a Project Engineer with Youngblut Construction in Waterloo, Iowa and later joined the Abell Howe Company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as a Project Manager. Rick received his Professional Engineer license in 1980. Rick was named an Outstanding Young Alumnus from Iowa State University and was named to the Midwest Commercial Real Estate Hall of Fame. During his career with Hubbell, Rick has been involved in the development of several commercial projects such as Kaleidoscope at the Hub, RiverPoint Business Park, Lakeview Medical Park and Birchwood Crossing Business Park. Hubbell Realty has developed several notable residential communities including Glynn Village Conservation Community in Waukee, Copper Creek Golf Course Community in Pleasant Hill and The Legacy Golf Course Community in Norwalk. In 2007 Hubbell entered the residential rental market and has developed market rate, low income housing tax credit and historic tax credit projects in both the downtown Des Moines market and many of the suburban markets. Projects include Cityville, Rocket Transfer Lofts, Riverpoint Lofts, 14Forty Lofts and 7th Street Brownstones in downtown Des Moines; The Winhall in Waukee, Stonegate Crossing in Clive, Meadowlark Place in Grimes and Legacy Landing in Norwalk. Hubbell Realty has also entered the Assisted Living market with Edencrest at Riverwoods in Des Moines and Edencrest at Green Meadows in Johnston. The Hubbell team is most proud of the “extreme builds” completed under Rick’s leadership. In September 2006, Rick led his Hubbell team and more than 200 trade partners in building a new home for an Iowa family on ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” In September 2009, the Hubbell team, together with their trade partners, built “9 Homes in 9 Days” for Anawim Housing, a project that transformed the Forest Avenue neighborhood. In September 2013, Hubbell Realty Company completed “Cabins for Campers 24/7” for Easter Seals Iowa’ Camp Sunnyside. This week-long project replaced the 1960s vintage cabins with two 7,500+ SF dormitory-style cabins that are handicap accessible, energy efficient and include an interior storm shelter. These two cabins serve more than 2,400 Easter Seals Iowa campers every year. In 2017 Hubbell tore down the existing Ronald McDonald House and replaced it with an 18,000 s.f. new facility in 11 days. The new facility expanded their capacity by over 50% Rick currently serves on the Board of Directors, and Executive Committee, for the Greater Des Moines Partnership; Co-Chair of the Des Moines Downtown Community Alliance; Executive Committee of the Des Moines Redevelopment Company; member of the Des Moines Comprehensive Plan Committee; Executive Committee of the Taxpayers Association of Central Iowa; and a member of the Board of Directors for the Iowa Association of Business and Industry. Rick is the past Chair of the Metropolitan Water Trails Committee; ; Past Co-Chair of the JDRF One Walk and American Heart Walk; past member of Iowa State University Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering Advisory Board; Past Chair of the Greater Des Moines YMCA;.
