Shawn Wood
Biografía: Shawn Wood is the Construction Waste Specialist with the City of Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability. He spearheaded outreach, development, and implementation of the first-in-the-nation mandatory deconstruction ordinance, which requires salvaging building materials for reuse when houses are removed. An integral part of his work includes developing effective program requirements, reporting, and program results. To date this includes over 400 whole-house deconstructions, 4.2 million pounds of salvaged wood, and a carbon benefit of 3,237 metric tons of CO2 Eq. His pioneering work has helped inform many deconstruction policies and incentives being implemented and developed in other parts of the U.S. and Canada. Shawn also understands the opportunities with developing deconstruction and reuse infrastructure as a disaster preparedness strategy. He holds a degree in Urban Planning from Virginia Tech.
