Biographie :
January 2004 Charles A. Kubat AIA, AICP Mr. Kubat is the founder and president of Kubat Consulting. He has over thirty years experience in the design, planning and development of master planned communities, downtown and adjacent development efforts, mixed use commercial, retail and resort projects and urban design studies in locations throughout the United States. Most recently Mr. Kubat served as Vice President of the Howard Hughes Corp. development company (an affiliate of the Rouse Company) responsible in Las Vegas for the design and planning of the master planned community of Summerlin (22,500 acres), winner of the Urban Land Institute Community of the Year honors in 2002. In this role he was involved in strategic direction setting for the project. He oversaw community programming and long range master planning, entitlements and community presentations, the creation of commercial and residential design guidelines and the internal design review process, village detailed planning and the design of streetscapes, entries, parks, community facilities and community retail projects. He managed teams of consultants and internal staff and overviewed design for up to $30 million in annual construction resulting in sales of 300-400 acres of residential and commercial land per year. Previously Mr. Kubat had similar responsibilities as the Director of Design and Planning for Friendswood Development Co. (the real estate development subsidiary of Exxon Co.) in Houston, Texas. Here he oversaw the development planning efforts for Kingwood (13,000 acres), Clear Lake City (10,000 acres), Fairfield (3,200 acres), and Greenspoint Activity Center (1,450 acres). Prior to Friendswood, Mr. Kubat was a Principal and Vice President of the international architecture and planning firm of RTKL Associates, Inc., Baltimore, Maryland. Here he was responsible for major development plans, mixed use, retail and resort projects and urban design studies such as Reston Town Center, VA; Harbortown at Mudd Island, Memphis; Camden Yards Sports Complex, Baltimore; Downtown Development Plan, San Jose, CA; Mile High Land Project, Denver; Peabody Place retail center, Memphis; Izu Resort, Japan. Mr. Kubat has a Master in City Planning degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Architecture (Highest Honors) and Bachelor of Arts (Summa Cum Laude) degree from the University of Minnesota. He has a certificate in resort planning from Harvard University and is a registered architect in Nevada, Colorado and Maryland, and holds an NCARB certificate. He has taught and lectured at several universities. Mr. Kubat is a full member of the Urban Land Institute and Vice Chair of the Community Development Council Gold Flight, a committee chair for AIA Las Vegas and serves on both the UNLV School of Architecture Advisory Board and the Clark County School District Bond Oversite Committee. He has served on invited charrette panels in Charlotte, Denver, Boston and New York and as a jury member for Builder Magazine.
