January 2008 Ms. Murray has a diverse background which encompasses a blending of her interests in business, real estate, interior design and social concerns. In chronological order, brief bullets on her career: " She graduated from the University of Illinois in Interior Design. For more than a decade she was president and owner of her own interior design firm in Dallas. " In 1992, she was hired as the first director, later President, of what became a very successful nonprofit real estate organization, The Real Estate Council, in Dallas. TREC's goal was to be a voice for real estate professionals of all disciplines and to work to better Dallas's quality of life by harnessing the volunteer efforts of its wide-ranging membership. During her leadership, the organization grew from a handful of real estate professionals discussing how to have an impact, to become the voice of the real estate industry in Dallas with over 1100 members. Along the way, countless individuals in Dallas have benefited from TREC's volunteer efforts, especially through their Foundation, created by Ms. Murray in 1993 as a charitable subsidiary for rebuilding blighted neighborhoods. " In the fall of 1997 she opened her own business for a second time. This time in the real estate development arena. Alice Murray Company provided real estate consulting for development, historic property services, public-side incentive assistance and design/construction management. The two big projects accomplished by AMCo was renovation/conversion of the historic Kirby Building in downtown Dallas, into 156 loft apartments and 16,000 sf of retail as well as the Gulf States Building, also downtown Dallas, into 68 apartments and retail. " Most recently, Ms. Murray was employed by Gatehouse Capital in Dallas as VP of Development and Acquisitions where she worked on the development of the W Dallas Hotel and Residences, the renovation of a Hyatt Regency in San Diego and the pre-development of a Kimpton Palomar Hotel and Residences in downtown Milwaukee. Ms. Murray has been involved with numerous civic and business organizations that relate to her focus on inner city revitalization and development, including TREC, DowntownDallas (as past President), mayoral appointee to the Dallas City Center TIF Board and the Mayor's Task Force on Homelessness, Preservation Dallas (as past President), the State Fair of Texas, the Trinity Commons Foundation and many other organizations.
