ULI Healthy Places Book Talks: Inclusive Transportation
In Conversation with Veronica O. Davis & Shonda Wang
The ULI Healthy Places Book Talks series marks the next chapter of the Building Healthy Places Book + Film Club. Since its inception in spring 2020, the BHP Book + Film Club has been a beacon for community and connection on topics and books focused on the intersection of health, equity, and the built environment.
The inaugural event of the series highlights Inclusive Transportation: A Manifesto for Repairing Divided Communities by Veronica O. Davis. In her work, Davis challenges the entrenched inequities in U.S. transportation planning and design and calls for a revolutionary shift towards justice and equity. She advocates for empathetic, diverse leadership, reformed professional training and education, and provides a vision for constructing transportation networks that help unite communities. In this book talk, facilitated by Shonda Wang of SvN Architects + Planners, Wang and Davis candidly dive into the challenges of making progress toward inclusivity in transportation and offer inspiration and actionable ways to better connect people with the planning process.
