Ali Barar

Biography:
I have served as Managing Principal for Gonzalez Goodale Architects for the past 12 years. My focus is on community planning though development of mixed-use, transit oriented, and affordable housing, as well as long range financial planning. I have over 30 years of experience in the areas of affordable housing design and community planning. Prior to Joining Gonzalez Goodale Architects, I was the Vice President and Architectural Director ofAbode Communities, a regional non-profit architecture, planning and affordable housing development corporation that provides a broad range of services to low-income communities. Prior to joining Abode Communities I was a principal with Peoples’ Housing, Inc., where I provided full architectural design and technical services on numerous housing developments. My work in community planning has included the design and planning for the conversion of over 1,000 units of public housing for cooperative ownership, and collaboration with the Watts/Willowbrook Boys and Girls Club for the remodeling and expansion of their facilities. My designs for affordable housing prototypes have attained recognition from the Southern California Association of Non-profit Housing, the San Diego Housing Commission and the Pratt Institute in New York City. My volunteer board activities include: Former memeber of the Board of Trustees for the Sequoyah School, an independent elementary and middle school; former member of the Board of Directors of the Hollywood Community Housing Corporation, a non-profit affordable housing development firm serving the communities of the Hollywood Echo Park area and past chair of the Pasadena Design Review Commission. I am currently serving as a member of the Board of directors for the Pasadena Planned Parenthood of Pasadena San Gabriel, and as a commissioner for the City of Pasadena Planning Commission. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from the University of North Carolina and a Master’s of Architecture degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. Member Directory  Arrow
