James Butz

Biography: Jim Butz is a husband of 30 years (to Cynthia), father of three young adults, (Daniel, David, and Julie) and enjoys the outdoors (hiking, fishing, skiing, and golf). To support his habits, he is the founder and CEO of Jefferson Apartment Group (JAG), where he is responsible for strategic planning and growth of the company and is involved all operational and investment decisions. He also works with our business leaders to focus on our company goals and values. Prior to JAG, Jim was the President of JPI East, a full-service real estate investment company, co-owned with General Electric Capital. Jim has over 30 years' experience in the real estate investment business focusing primarily on institutional quality income producing apartment communities and has been responsible for the acquisition or development of over 20,000 units. He is a graduate of SMU in Dallas, Tx with a BA in Business Administration, Finance and Economics. He is currently on the Executive Committee of the National Multifamily Housing Council and the NAHB Multifamily Leadership Board, a member of ULI and active in a variety of local real estate and charitable organizations.
