Biography:
Jonathan Barnett Barnett is a professor of architecture and director of the graduate program in urban design at the City College of New York, and an independent consultant. His practice has included long-term consulting relationships with many cities, including Charleston, South Carolina, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Kansas City, Missouri. He has served as urban design adviser to the city of Cleveland, Ohio, since 1981 and the city of Norfolk, Virginia, since 1987. He is currently an adviser to the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust for downtown cultural district planning and the Kansas City Economic Development Corporation for new investment in the Country Club Plaza, and is preparing an action plan for downtown Miami on behalf of Dade County and the city of Miami. Barnett is the author of several books, including Urban Design as Public Policy, Introduction to Urban Design, The Elusive City, and The Fractured Metropolis. A magna cum laude graduate of Yale, Barnett also holds an M.A. degree from the University of Cambridge and a master+s degree in architecture from Yale.
