Jeffrey Gunning

Biography: Jeff Gunning began his professional career with RTKL in 1984 and leads the Retail / Mixed Use practice area for CallisonRTKL. A key CRTKL leader in shopping centers and mixed use, Jeff has helped to solidify their position as the world’s leading retail and mixed use design practice. CallisonRTKL has been recognized more than any other firm by the International Council of Shopping Centers for excellence in the design of retail-driven projects, and are the number one retail design practice in the world in both shopping center and store design. His leadership has shaped CallisonRTKL’s holistic approach, combining urban design, architecture, interior architecture and environmental graphic design to create experiential places that resonate with a sense of community and expand the boundaries of art and architecture. Jeff’s experience has been focused on large scale, retail driven mixed use developments combining retail, entertainment, sport, residential, office, hotel, and health, utilizing consumer insights and a focus on the Guest Experience to create synergistic environments known for their commercial success and lasting sense of place. His projects have been instrumental in CallisonRTKL’s international expansion into Europe, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East. Jeff is a frequent contributor to industry publications and a speaker at ICSC, ULI, AIA and other industry conferences. He currently serves on the ICSC US Design Awards jury, the University of Oklahoma Gibbs College of Architecture Board of Visitors, and was a founding board member of the AIA Retail Entertainment Knowledge Community in 2005. He was elevated to Fellowship in the American Institute of Architects in 2019. Jeff is a 1984 graduate of the Gibbs College of Architecture at the University of Oklahoma.
