John Gosling

Washington DC Mr. John Gosling is company-wide Residential Sector Leader and Director of Planning and Urban Design for the Baltimore and Washington offices of RTKL Associates Inc. In these roles, he has been responsible for managing and developing some of the firm's most high profile urban design and planning assignments in major cities around the nation and abroad, including the award winning State/Thomas Urban District Plan, Dallas, Addison Circle Transit Oriented Development in Dallas; the Tower City Center, Cleveland, Ohio, and the Downtown Action Plan for Oklahoma City. A native Londoner, Mr. Gosling received his architectural education at the Architectural Association School of Architecture, London, and is certified as both an architect and registered planner. He has been a practitioner of planning and urban design for over 30 years working for both real estate developers and professional service firms. He is a Fellow of the Institute for Urban Design, past chairman of the City of Dallas' Urban Design Advisory Committee, the recipient of the City of Dallas' Kessler Award for Individual Achievements in Urban Design, and member of Lambda Alpha International, the Land Economics Society based in Washington, DC. For the past two years he has taught a graduate course on 'Rebuilding the American City" at the University of Virginia and the 'Advanced Residential Development Process Classes' at the Urban Land Institute's Real Estate Workshops in Washington and San Francisco. The recipient of the ULI, Urban Land Institutes Agar Award for Journalism he has written numerous articles on urban revitalization and urban design issues over years including his most recent article in the August 2001 issue of Urban Land - "Points of View - Debating Density". Mr. Gosling joined RTKL in 1984 as Director of Planning and Urban Design for their Dallas office, was named a principal in 1988, and relocated to the RTKL Washington office in 1996.
