John Griffin
Biography: John J. Griffin, Jr. Chairman Real Estate Department Mr. Griffin is the Chairman of the Real Esate Department, and is a member of the Boston, Massachusetts and American Bar Associations, the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, the Urban Land Institute, Lambda Alpha International and NAIOP. As a full member and leader of the ULI, Mr. Griffin serves on the Education Committee and as Chairman of ULI's Metropolitan and Economic Development Council, where he has spoken on a number of topics of national interest to real estate developers. Mr. Griffin has recently organized and delivere panel presentations to the ULI membership on dealing with hazardous waste and toxic substances. He has spoken at ULI sponsored seminars on "Managing Development through Public/Private Negotiations" and "Unversities and Real Estate Development," and participated in the ULI Policy Forum on Downtown Linkages. For the past thirteen years, Mr. Griffin has taught a section of the course on the real estate develoment process at the ULI's annual Real Estate School. Mr. Griffin has recently been appointed a member of the ULI Environment Task Force. Mr. Griffin has also participated in Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education courses on the effects of the Tax Reform Act of 1986, the development and financing of real estate, and real estate documentation. Mr. Griffin has also participated as a lecturer in a program on bankruptcy and foreclosures sponsored by the National Business Institute and has addresses the Appraisal Institute on the legal aspects on non-profit entities. Mr. Griffin serves as the current Education Vice President of the Boston Chapter of NAIOP. Mr. Griffin focuses on the representation of public agencies, private institutions, and developers of commercial real estate in all aspects of the development process, includibg acquisitions and assemblage of parcels, structuring and negotiating financing, the permitting and approval process and tenant leasing.
