R. Hunter Gee
Biography: R. Hunter Gee, FAIA Hunter is a founding Principal of Smith Gee Studio, an architecture, interiors, and urban planning firm in Nashville, TN. His experience includes a variety of planning, urban design, and architecture projects across the country. Hunter has led major private-sector urban redevelopment projects, such as the Gulch Redevelopment Master Plan in Nashville, the South's first LEED for Neighborhood Development certified project. He has been involved in several of Nashville's most successful adaptive reuse projects, including Taylor Place and the recently completed Neuhoff District, where a 200,000 s.f. former slaughterhouse was converted into a mixed-use development along the banks of the Cumberland River. Hunter takes time to speak at conferences and seminars, including presentations on smart growth, sustainable development, transit-oriented development, and new urbanism. A ULI Member since 2006, Hunter played a major role in the formation of ULI's Nashville District Council, and served as Chair from 2012-2014. Hunter served as President of the Board for the Nashville Civic Design Center and was appointed by Mayor Dean to the Metro Planning Commission and the Historic Zoning Commission. In 2016 Hunter was elevated by his peers to Fellowship in the American Institute of Architects.
