Thomas Grimes
Biography: Mr. Grimes, retired from MAA on December 31st, 2022. He was at MAA for 28 years, the last 11 of which he sieved as Executive Vice President and COO for MAA. In that role he oversaw the company’s portfolio operations including the company’s property management, asset management revenue management, renovation and landscape operations, maintenance, corporate services and marketing. Mr. Grimes was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in December 2011, having previously served as Executive Vice President and Director of Property Management. Prior to this position, Mr. Grimes served as an Operations Director over MAA's Central and North Regions. He also served as Director of Business Development where he worked with MAA's joint venture partners, managed new development efforts and directed ancillary income business. Mr. Grimes holds a Bachelor of Arts from Emory University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Memphis. In 2006, Mr. Grimes was named one of the Top 40 under 40 National Industry Up and Comers by Multi-Family Executive Magazine. Mr. Grimes is an active leader in the industry and community. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute (MultiFamily Gold Council). He is a current board member and past-chairman of the Board of the Shelby Farms Park Conservancy, which is responsible for the design, development and management of one of the largest urban parks in the United States. He serves on the board for Soulsville Foundation. And he is a past board member of INNOVA, an early-stage venture capital firm focused on starting and funding high-growth companies in the Biosciences, Technology and AgBio fields.
