Biography:
Brenda Hicks-Sorensen, CEcD, was appointed director of the Economic Development Department (EDD) for the City of San Antonio effective July 26, 2021. She oversees three divisions – Small Business, Industry Development, and Global Engagement – and numerous programs. Prior to joining the City of San Antonio, Brenda served as the Assistant Economic Development Director with the City of Fort Worth, TX for five years, where she was also a member of ULI Dallas-Fort Worth. Prior to her time in Texas, Brenda served in leadership positions with the Nebraska Department of Economic Development, Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation (WI); and Washington County (WI). She was also the President and Founder of Economic and Community Development Solutions, LLC. Brenda earned her certified economic developer designation in 2005. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and a Master of Science degree in Urban Studies with an emphasis in Public Policy and Economic Development from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. When not working, Brenda enjoys spending time with her family, including her two rescue dogs, or can be found running off road trails with her friends.
