John Helm

Biography: John is the Managing Director of Real Estate Technology Ventures (RET Ventures) an MF/SFR industry backed venture capital investment firm located in Park City, UT that is focused on investing in companies that provide technology and services to the real estate industry. RET Ventures has made 26 investments in early stage real estate technology companies primarily serving the MF and SFR industry and has over $300m in AUM. The firm’s strategic partners include 7 pubic MF/SFR REITs and over 35 private owner/managers of multifamily properties that collectively own/manage approximately 2,400,000 units. John serves on the boards of RET Ventures investments Lexicon, GiGstreem, Sight Plan, Fernish, Funnel, Get Covered, and Moved. Before founding RET Ventures, John was a Venture Partner with DN Capital in Europe from 2012-2016. Previously he was the founder and CEO of two venture backed startups in the online real estate space in the U.S., MyNewPlace and AllApartmetn/SpringStreet. Prior to SpringStreet, John was the Chief Financial Officer and Head of Business Development for Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Brokerage Company where he headed up all finance, technology, and business development activities. John was also a consultant for McKinsey & Company for six years and a sales specialist for Coldwell Banker Commercial Real Estate Services. John graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A in Economics from the University of Wisconsin and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. John lives in Park City with his wife Catherine, son Jack (16), daughter Alexandra (14) and black lab Axel (3).
