Biography: 1/14/2020 William P. Hankowsky Retired Former Chairman, President & Chief Executive Officer of Liberty Property Trust William P. Hankowsky was chairman, president and chief executive officer of Liberty Property Trust from 2001-2020. Mr. Hankowsky joined Liberty in January of 2001 as chief investment officer, responsible for refining the company’s corporate strategy and investment process. In 2002 he was named president, and in 2003 he was appointed chief executive officer and elected chairman of Liberty’s board of trustees. Under his leadership Liberty has achieved a number of accomplishments. Liberty has grown from $4B to nearly $13B in total enterprise value. Mr. Hankowsky led a major strategic transformation of the company moving from a predominately office-focused enterprise (+60% of revenue) to becoming one of the leading national industrial real estate firms with 110 million SF across 24 U.S. markets. Under his leadership Liberty has become the nation’s leading commercial developer of high-performance green buildings, earning an unparalleled series of national awards including the 2006 United States Green Building Council’s Leadership in LEED® award, the 2007 NAIOP (National Association of Industrial and Office Properties) Green Development award, the 2008 CoreNet Global Sustainability Leadership award, and the 2008 NAIOP Developer of the Year award. In addition to serving as chairman of Liberty’s board since 2003, Mr. Hankowsky has extensive public company board experience. He was on the board of Aqua America (NYSE: WTR) from 2004 to 2019. He chaired Aqua’s compensation committee from 2005-2015. He was a member of the audit committee from 2004-2019 and chaired the audit committee from 2015 to 2019.
