Kirk Johnson

Biography:
Kirk Johnson is a Sustainability Programs Director with 15+ years of experience developing & delivering over 20+ decarbonization programs across Canada. Funders for these $300M+ worth of national, provincial, municipal, association programs include NRCan, Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC), City of Toronto, OPA/IESO, BOMA, HRAI, Environment & Climate Change Canada (ECCC), GreenON, EnerQuality, Enbridge, Toronto Hydro, and the Ministry of Energy (MOE). Kirk has held Sustainability Portfolio Manager, Program Director, and Program Lead roles on some of Canada's largest and longest-lasting sustainability programs. These include designing/managing the national 1000+ building CaGBC CRE GREEN UP Program; Toronto’s $40M MURB and MUSH Incentive programs; and re-designing/managing the $30M Ontario's GreenON Program delivery for HRAI and leading IESO/OPA's CRE market portfolio with $75M BOMA-Toronto CRE Market Incentives, Ontario's $35M Heat Pump/Fuel Switching Program, the province's $40M High-Performance New Construction Program (HPNC). Kirk's market transformation work includes leading and setting the building certification performance standards for the energy section of the award-winning Toronto Green Standard (TGS) V1 and securing/developing the Canadian adaptation for the EPA ENERGY STAR for Multi-Family (ESMF) Program. He has chaired the NRCan's DSM Working Group for the Canadian adaption of the EPA Portfolio Manager to Canada and the Mayor's Working Group for District Energy. He has actively contributed as an advisory group member on the MaRS/CaGBC IREE Investor Confidence Project; TAF's MURB Pumping Energy Savings and Deep Energy Retrofit reports. He has extensive experience in green finance and ESCO/EPC Projects. In 2021, Kirk developed & delivered a Climate Action MURB capacity building program in Toronto, funded by Environment & Climate Change Canada (ECCC).
