Biography:
David W. Kitchens Principal Cooper Carry Architects Mr. Kitchens grew up in Atlanta, GA, receiving Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Architecture at Georgia Institute of Technology. His graduate studies concentrated on Urban Design and pedestrian urban spaces and also continued his studies in an Assisted Living Professional Program at Harvard University. He participated in several AIA-sponsored Urban Design Assistance projects, making recommendations to cities for downtown redevelopment. At Thompson Ventulett and Stainback, an Atlanta-based architectural firm, he concentrated on the design and development of several Urban Mixed-Use projects, including: Omni International Mixed-Use Center, Atlanta's Georgia World Congress Center and Hyatt Regency Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. In 15 years of service with Cooper Carry, Mr. Kitchens has lead and participated in numerous architectural and urban design projects, including: Underground Atlanta, Mizner Park, Boca Raton, Florida, C&P Telephone at Fairview Park, Falls Church, Virginia, Research Office Center, Rockville, Maryland and Clematis Street, West Palm Beach, Florida. His professional associations include: American Institute of Architects, NCARB, Washington DC Board of Trade and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Among his awards, Mr. Kitchens has received the Henry Adams, AIA Scholastic Award for Excellence in the Study of Architecture, the SGF Research Grant for Urban Design Study Capital City Plan for the State of Alaska, and the 1991 NOVA/NAIOP Award of Merit, High Rise Category C&P Telephone, Fairfax County Virginia.
