Biography:
After graduating from Delft Technical University in the Netherlands with a Masters Degree in Architecture, Koen came to Japan on a Monbusho Scholarship and entered the University of Tokyo. There he enrolled in a PhD on Urban Planning. While studying he gained professional experience by working in the offices of Fumihiko Maki. In 2004, Koen quit the university and established ADK Japan Real Estate, a privately held real estate investment fund, investing in high-end residential properties in Tokyo. Concurrently in 2008, he established the architecture firm frontoffice Tokyo with a Canadian partner. In 2018, Koen worked with GreenPlace Assets, an investment management and advisory firm, as Project Director on the Sustainability Assessment of Kansai International Airport. Since 2019 Koen joined the team at BEE and established BEE Japan. BEE is a sustainability engineering consulting and technology company specializing in the creation of green and healthy buildings. BEE was born out of the realization that a large knowledge gap exists between engineering and design teams introducing sustainable solutions and the construction teams in charge of bringing these solutions to life.In the implementation process, sustainable goals of a project often get lost. At BEE we aim to bring together the design and engineering know-how with construction expertise and materials specialization to provide the missing link that enables a project to truly achieve its sustainability goals.
