Peter Katz

Biography:
In his tenure and as a co-founder of Institutional Property Advisors (IPA), a Marcus & Millichap company, Peter Katz has closed more than 135,000 beds totaling over $5.95 billion in student housing transactions, on a national platform. He joined Marcus & Millichap in 1991 specializing in institutional student housing properties, and has been the top student housing agent in the firm for the past 18 years. Mr. Katz has also been involved in joint venture, development equity initiatives in a consulting capacity for core, Class “A” pedestrian properties throughout the country as well as specializing in core, core-plus, and value-add investment sales. Historically, Mr. Katz has represented REITs, Pension Fund Realty Advisors, Developers, Private Equity firms, and large private capital groups as sponsors to institutional capital. His specialty lies in the articulation of an asset’s value utilizing both detailed submarket rental knowledge with credible underwriting to yield higher net proceeds for the Selling Entity. He is able to drive higher value by thoroughly understanding the operations of the comparable properties within the submarket and combining this with current operations to develop a discounted cash flow financial model that portrays the optimized valuation of a property. This expertise helped him achieve some of the highest prices in history in the student housing sector. Over the past year, he has closed over $750 million in core, Class “A,” core-plus and “value-add” assets for institutional and private clients alike.
