Eric Leighton

Biography: Eric Leighton has been with CBP and its predecessor studio since 2000. He was named a partner in 2006. While Eric’s career has focused primarily on market-rate and single-family housing, he has also designed city fire stations and health centers, art galleries, and adaptive reuse work. Eric’s strengths lie in zoning analyses, feasibility studies, and subtle solutions that impress developers and residents alike. “In my head, I live in every building I design. I think about the lobby, the corridors, the dwelling units, and the progression through spaces. Thinking about the experience helps identify the intangible elements that don’t add cost but make spaces better.” Like other architects, as a kid, Eric played with LEGO® and constructed elaborate scale buildings to accompany his train set. He took his first architecture job at age 16. Growing up in developing Central Bucks County, Eric was fascinated by both the historic buildings and new developments around him. One of the most intriguing – a CBP project along the Delaware River – foreshadowed his career. Eric earned a Bachelor of Architecture with a minor in historic preservation from Roger Williams University. He sits on the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia Easement Committee. A resident of Cheltenham Township, Eric serves as chairperson of the Zoning Hearing Board and previously served on the Planning Commission. He is registered in Pennsylvania. Eric is married with three high school and college-aged children. An avid runner and cyclist, he runs regular full and half marathons and can often be found logging miles before sunrise. Never without a device stocked full of lengthy sagas (Ken Follett, Edward Rutherford, and David McCullough are favorite authors), Eric also enjoys reading and fantasizing about retiring to a beach in Belize or lakeside in Maine.
