BENJAMIN METCALF EXPERIENCE U.S. DEPT. OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT, Washington, DC Deputy Assistant Secretary, Office of Multifamily Housing Programs August 2013 to Present ? Appointed by President Obama on August 9, 2013, to serve on the Department’s executive leadership team, in charge of federal rental housing programs. These programs primarily originate federally guaranteed loans that finance acquisition, construction, or renovation of market rate and affordable rental housing and provide asset management for a portfolio of 2.5 million housing units across the country. The office also develops key policy priorities for the Administration, including: energy efficiency; housing for the elderly, disabled and formerly homeless; and comprehensive neighborhood revitalization. ? Over an 18 month period grew the Office’s portfolio of federally guaranteed multifamily loans from $60 billion to $70 billion and increased, by more than 400%, the total new originations of insured loans on affordable multifamily properties. ? Initiated and implemented a comprehensive reorganization of all employees and business functions under my supervision. Accomplishments include: ? Reassigning virtually all 1,250 employees to new job titles, with six-week intensive retraining opportunities for all staff to improve customer service and reduce financial risk to the federal government through new specialized roles. ? Consolidating and eliminating obsolete business functions; ? Creating a national workload sharing program which eliminated long-established work queues. ? Launched and oversee the Rental Assistance Demonstration program which has facilitated $6 billion of new investment to privatize and rehabilitate distressed public housing, without any newly appropriated federal funds. ?
