Maureen McAvey

Biography:
20 YEARS EXPERIENCE IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND FINANCING FOR PUBLIC/PRIVATE DEVELOPMENT. McAvey is regional director of Real Estate Consulting Group at Deloitte & Touche, one of the six largest accounting and consulting firms in the U.S. In this capacity, she consults with a wide range of governmental units and corporations regarding real estate matters. With over twenty years experience in real estate consulting, finance, and development, she has broad expertise with institutional developers and large holders of real estate including major corporations, pension funds, academic institutions, and cities. Prior to her current position, McAvey directed the real estate consulting practice of Coopers and Lybrand, valuing over $12 billion in real estate assets for U.S. government agencies, major banks, and insurance companies, and directing due diligence for the securitizing and bulk sales of performing and non-performing mortgage pools. As a private developer, she was project manager for the award-winning $40 million rehabilitation of a national historic landmark hotel in Los Angeles. Prior to this position, she was director of economic development for the City of St. Paul, Minnesota. She was responsible for the management and growth of several industrial, commercial, and small business financing programs, and directed the preparation of a downtown development plan. Other professional accomplishments include providing financial assistance and project development assistance to several city governments to carry out major proposed urban development projects by developing requests for proposals, and proposing alternative forms of financing to accomplish objectives at least public costs. McAvey is a frequent guest lecturer at universities and industry conferences and is listed in "Outstanding Women in America." She is an active member of the Urban Land Institute where she is vice-chair of the Advisory Services Committee and a member of the Boston District Council Steering Committee. She holds a bachelor of arts and a master of science from the University of Minnesota and a master of public administration from the Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University.
