Peter Milczyn
Biography: Peter Milczyn graduated the University of Toronto Faculty of Architecture in 1989 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. He established PZM Design a small boutique design studio in 1989 and continued this practice until 2000. He was an active committee member of Metropolitan Toronto's award winning "Mainstreets" initiative. In 1994 he was elected to the City of Etobicoke City Council representing Ward 2 (Mimico and New Toronto). On City Council he spearheaded the redevelopemnt of vacant city lands at Skeen's Lane, by way of a design/build competition. The commencement of Etobicoke's Waterfront redevelopment. The establishment of a new community arts facility on the Lakeshore Hospital Grounds. This was an effort to realise his Architecture Design thesis from UofT. In 2000 Peter was elected to the City of Toronto Council representing Ward 5 (Etobicoke Lakeshore). He served on the City's Planning and Housing Committee for 14 years. His leadership led to realization of a number of critical City Building initiatives. The Queensway Avenue initiative which has so far delivered over ten new Mixed Use Mid-Rise developments on this suburban arterial road. The Etobicoke City Centre which encompasses over 14 acres of underutilized City owned lands, and required the demolition of a 1950's era cloverleaf interchange. This required a $70 million investment in new road infrastructure focussed on the pedestrian realm. New mixed-use residential towers with affordable housing are under construction, as well as a new Municipal Office Building and Community Centre. Peter also led the revitalization of Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto's main public square and gathering place. A 2015 Design Competition led to selection of a design by PLANT Architect to refurbish and renew the 1960's modern masterpiece by Architect Viljo Revell. A municipal investment of $60 million to implement the design was approved and the work completed in 2018. In 2014 Peter was elected to the Ontario Legislature as Member of Provincial Parliament for Etobicoke Lakeshore. He championed Planning reforms and in 2018 as Minister of Housing introduced Ontario's first Inclusionary Zoning regulations. Since 2018 as Principal of PM Strategies Peter assists landowners and developers to navigate the planning process in order to secure development approvals. Throughout his professional career Peter has been an active ULI Member and highly values the sharing of knowledge among its members, as well as the fellowship cultivated through ULI's many events.
