Steven Matt
Biography: Steve heads one of Southern California’s leading general contractors. In 1991, Steve co-founded MATT Construction with his father, Paul Matt, and his uncle, Alan Matt, after decades in the construction industry. Driven by the pursuit of "building a great company," Steve has been the force behind MATT Construction’s multi-decade growth and success. Today, as MATT’s Chairman and CEO, he remains central to the company’s preconstruction efforts, applying his insights and coaching to initial project set-up, facilitating a rigor and momentum to the process, and assisting clients and partnering with many legendary architects in understanding the ever-changing construction landscape. He leads over 170 employees and holds a contractor’s license in the state of California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, and Arizona. In 2017, AIA-LA honored Steve Matt with the Presidential Advocate, Builder Award for his lasting contributions to the city of Los Angeles. Steve is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in civil engineering and holds a Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED ® AP) accreditation. Steve currently serves on the Board of Directors of University of Southern California School of Architecture Board of Councilors and the Colburn School of Performing Arts in downtown LA. His professional organization affiliations and community involvement include World Presidents Organization (WPO/YPO), The Fellows at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, American Concrete Institute, American Institute of Architects, and Structural Engineers Association of Southern California (SEASOC). He is married to Susan and has two children, Mackenzie (23) and Paul Henry (21). Some of his personal interests include cycling, model railroading, rocketry, snow skiing and hiking
