David Perlman
Biography: Currently, I am a Managing Director of Capital Markets and Head of the New York office at Thorofare Capital. I have over 15 years of real estate experience with a diverse skillset and knowledge base, having participated in more than $10B in debt and equity transactions over my career. Prior to Thorofare, I worked at Natixis, where I served as Director in the real estate group. At Natixis, I structured, negotiated, and priced loans ($30MM to $1B) ranging from pre-development to value-add projects and everything in between, throughout the United States and Canada. I also focused on working with our clients on their balance sheet banking needs. Prior to Natixis, I spent the majority of my earlier career at Brickman, where I purchased properties around the country and managed the assets that I purchased. In addition, as the market moved into a recession, I utilized my strong debt experience and became involved in the debt part of the capital stack, originating mezzanine debt as well as buying both senior and mezzanine debt. After graduating from Washington University in St. Louis, I turned down higher paying opportunities to join a rating agency in their CMBS group because I felt strongly that I wanted my career to focus on real estate. I have worked in real estate ever since. Even in college, I had a strong interest in cities and communities; I spent part of my study work in urban history and wrote my honors thesis on early African-American Suburbanization in the United States. I am and have always been active in my community. For instance, while in school, I interned at the local Chamber of Commerce and worked with city officials on a master-plan project to preserve the city’s waterfront while allowing for smart and well-planned development that fit the culture of this particular area.
