Brent Schulz
Biography: Brent J. Schulz Director of Planning Services DDC Engineers Incorporated With 13 years of professional planning experience, Mr. Brent J. Schulz, MUEP, joined DDC Engineers, Inc., bringing along an extensive background of projects. While being employed through multiple firms, Mr. Schulz managed a variety of federal and private master planning projects located throughout the United States, the Caribbean, the Pacific Rim, Southeast Asia and Europe. These projects include, although are not limited to, the following: Tennessee Golf Course Feasibility Studies, throughout the state of Tennessee; Sahl Hasheesch Planned City, Central Egypt; Iwasaki Hotel and Resort, Tanegashima, Japan; Mauna Lani Resort and Country Club, Loudon County, Virginia and the Myrtle Beach Community Recovery Plan, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. From this diverse background, Mr. Schulz has gained experience in environmental design, management and assessment, site planning, urban design, resort and subdivision planning and design, federal and private master planning, golf course routing, landscape design, recreation planning and computer simulation and design. More specifically, some examples of his achievements are found in projects such as the Waverley, a mixed-use community located on over 2.000 acres within an environmentally sensitive area of Prince William County, VA, where he was a project planner. This project required a sensitive balance between developer objectives and environmental/ regulatory constraints. This project was sold soon after to Walt Disney Productions in an attempt to create a world-class theme park. Another example of his skill was demonstrated at the request of the City of Myrtle Beach for the North Ocean Boulevard Planning Study in North Carolina. Mr. Schulz was asked to provide schematics for the renovation of the existing road layout and streetscape of North Ocean Boulevard. Included within the alternatives were center medians, turning lanes, dedicated bike trails, and sidewalks on both sides of the Boulevard. After the submittal of the planning alternatives, DDC was to provide the final engineering documents to be utilized in the construction of the boulevard. Construction began on the project in January of 1998. Mr. Schulz began his career by earning a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning from East Carolina University and continued on to earn a Master of Urban and Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia. He enhanced his skills by taking Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) Courses at the University of Hawaii and Golf Course Architecture Courses at Harvard University. He's also served as an Adjunct Lecturer for Pitt Community College in Greenville, NC- Department of Geography and currently continues to lecture for The Department of Urban & Regional Planning at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. Professional Memberships include The Urban Land Institute, the Wilmington, NC Chapter and Horry-Georgetown Chapter of the Homebuilders Association, the Horry County Development Council and Leadership Grand Strand (Class #18).
