Steven Spillman
Biography: Steve Spillman is a Principal with Pacifica Companies, a national real estate development firm that embraces complex projects and turns around troubled properties and projects in challenging political and competitive settings. He has had P&L responsibility for mixed-use, multi-family, office, medical, retail, corporate and public projects as well as master planned communities. As the EVP of EDC (W. P. Carey's development subsidiary), Steve turned around a troubled, high profile, public/private project in downtown L.A. As a Principal at Mitsui's Birtcher, he developed and managed office, retail, and mixed-use projects in California and Arizona. At Aetna’s UIDC, Jaymont Properties, and Burnham Properties, he was a Vice President and Development Manager for high-rise mixed-use, multi-family and office projects in New York City, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Dallas and Houston. He began his career as an architect designing similar national and international projects as well as hospitals and MOBs, retail and recreational complexes, and industrial/distribution facilities. He has been a Registered Architect and California Real Estate Broker for decades. Steve has chaired a variety of Northern and Southern California community commissions and trusts (Planning & Transportation, Investment Advisory, Prefunding Pension Obligation) and committees (Registrar of Voters and Water Conservation). He currently serves on Santa Rosa's General Plan Update Committee and is on the Oakmont Village Board of Directors. Steve was a member of and chaired multiple ULI Urban Development/Mixed-Use Councils and Panel Advisory Services assignments. He won the Marshall Kramer Award and was a Council Counselor, L.A. District Council Vice Chair and an Orange County District Council founder. He also was a long-term national Program Committee Vice Chair and founding Co-Chair for three Trends Conferences. Steve served on the Japan America Society Advisory Board and the Pediatric Infectious Disease Research Foundation Board (chairing its Strategic Planning Committee). He also chaired the public-private Centraplex real estate marketing association. After attending Purdue University (Everham Scholarship), he earned a Bachelor of Architecture (Cum Laude) from Kansas State University, and graduated with an MBA (Investment & Finance) from the University of Missouri. He also taught real estate financing and development to UC-Irvine's MBA students. Steve is known for utilizing his creative and pragmatic problem solving and team building skills to successfully tackle complex challenges on-time and within budget.
