Malee Tobias
Biography: Malee Tobias is a real estate strategist who integrates data, economics, consumer insights, and marketplace trends to identify groundbreaking opportunities in large-scale, mixed-use community development and housing. With over two decades of experience leading marketing and research for premier companies in the industry, Malee brings a unique, solutions-focused skill set and collaborative mindset to drive innovation and growth. As the former Chief Marketing Officer at Newland, the largest mixed-use master-planned community developer in the U.S., Malee provided strategic direction in community visioning, branding, marketing strategy, customer engagement, and market research. She led an inter-disciplinary team of over 40 marketing professionals, leveraging state-of-the-art digital technologies and collaborative partnerships to deliver award-winning, top-performing communities that generated strong financial returns. Prior to her role as CMO, Malee spearheaded research strategy, delivering foundational insights that informed new community envisioning, development planning, customer strategies, market positioning, and product segmentation. Previously, Malee established and led market research and consumer insights for Brookfield Properties' development group, informing investment strategy, acquisitions, and development across their diverse portfolio of mixed-use communities, land, and homebuilding. She also served as Vice President at RCLCO, a national real estate advisory firm, where she specialized in development strategy, planning, market segmentation, and economic analysis for large-scale projects nationwide. Throughout her career, Malee has been driven by a passion for creating vibrant, thriving places that positively impact people’s lives. She excels at identifying untapped market opportunities, optimizing product-market fit, and crafting compelling brand stories that resonate with target audiences. Her expertise spans the full development lifecycle, from acquisition and planning to design, marketing, and operations. Malee is a thought leader and active contributor to the industry, serving as a Full Member of the Urban Land Institute and Past Chair of the ULI Community Development Council. She holds a dual-major Bachelor's in Economics and Political Science from UCLA and a Master's in Public Policy and Urban Planning from Harvard University. Malee is a Woodrow Wilson Fellow in Public Policy and International Affairs and serves on the Advisory Board of the Customer Experience Program at University of California, Irvine.
