Robert Walter-Joseph
Biography: Robert Walter-Joseph is a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) and a Principal at Gladki Planning Associates, a leading urban planning consultancy based in Toronto, Ontario. With over a decade of experience in the planning and development sector, Robert specializes in housing policy, land use planning, urban design, and affordable housing systems. His work is grounded in a commitment to creating inclusive, equitable, and sustainable communities. Robert has played a pivotal role in shaping transformative projects across Ontario, including affordable housing developments, mixed-use intensification, and community planning initiatives. As a Black professional planner and advocate for diversity in the field, Robert brings a unique perspective to his practice, emphasizing the importance of equity and representation in urban planning. He is deeply engaged in addressing the housing affordability crisis, advancing non-market housing solutions, and exploring innovative approaches to adaptive planning and policy resilience in the face of rapid change. Robert is also passionate about public engagement and knowledge sharing. He frequently writes on urban planning topics through his Substack blog, CitySteps, and has contributed to discussions on the intersection of urban form, history, and community development. He has been invited to speak at conferences, roundtables, panels on housing policy, and the evolving role of planners in a post-COVID world.
