Biography:
Shonda Wang BSW, MSc, MCIP RPP Principal Shonda is a Planner and Urban Designer with over 20 years of experience in large-scale urban regeneration projects, including focused work on transportation planning and design. With her background in social work and community development, Shonda has developed a particular expertise in the socio-economic and participatory aspects of planning and design. As part of a multi-disciplinary team for Eglinton Connects (CIP Award of Excellence, ITE Award), Shonda developed the public realm plan for a 19 km segment of Eglinton Avenue from Jane Street to Kennedy Road, which included an Environmental Assessment for 11 km. As part of this project, Shonda supported the City of Toronto in review of the LRT Stations in preparation for the P3 bid. For the Eglinton Crosstown Real Estate and Retail Study for Metrolinx, Shonda provided planning and urban design analysis to examine short and long-term development potential in and around LRT station sites. Shonda is adept working at various planning scales, from Regional and Official Plans to Secondary and Neighbourhood Plans. As Project Manager for the Newmarket Secondary Plan, Shonda worked closely with the Region and Town to plan for the VivaNext LRT along both the Yonge Street and Davis Drive corridors, in the context of urban transformation and growth. Shonda led the planning and urban design components of the Study, including developing the land use and density plan and redevelopment framework, creating and testing demonstrative 3D built form massing concepts, advising the Town on development applications and authoring guidelines and policies for the Directions Report and Secondary Plan documents. Past experience includes Project Management for the Alexandra Park Revitalization for Toronto Community Housing Corporation (CIP Award of Excellence), the Etobicoke Centre Public Realm and Streetscape Plan (CSLA Award of Merit), the King Street West Streetscape for the City of Hamilton, and a comprehensive design plan for the re-purpose of a 200 ha brownfield site in Niagara Falls, New York.
