Los Angeles California 10 Minute Walk Study Visit Report Image
Report Summary:

From November 13-15, 2019, ULI convened a group of national and local experts in Los Angeles, California to advise the city of Los Angeles' Department of Recreation and Parks. This study visit provided guidance on improving park quality and access in the Boyle Heights neighborhood and on strategic alignment between city departments and agencies in an effort to increase the percentage of city residents who live within a 10-minute walk of a high-quality park.

Specifically, the experts were asked to consider:

  1. How can the Los Angeles Recreation and Parks department leverage partnerships to build and operate parks and open space?
  2. What policies should be implemented to ensure equitable public access to parks?
  3. How can the public realm be improved to enhance access to parks?
