Biography:
As Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Franz provides strategic direction for the firm and serves as chair of the investment committees for all funds and investment programs. He has been the CEO of Cabot since founding the firm in 2002; during this time, we have raised nine discretionary funds creating enduring partnerships with leading global investors. Franz is focused on sustaining Cabot’s strong record of realized returns and creating opportunity for the firm’s growing international team. Franz joined his father in the industrial property business in 1996. In 1998 this business went public as Cabot Industrial Trust where he served as the Chief Financial Officer of this New York Stock Exchange listed Real Estate Investment Trust. This company was sold in 2001 and during the years of its existence was the top performing industrial REIT. Franz previously worked as a consultant with McKinsey & Company and as an investment banker with Merrill Lynch & Co. During this time in his career he worked and lived in New York City, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Budapest. Franz is a trustee of the Urban Land Institute and serves on the America’s Executive Committee as Chair of the Finance Committee. Franz has served as a trustee or board member of numerous businesses and non-profits. He has lectured at Harvard University and often speaks at real estate industry conferences. Franz graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard College in 1985, where he studied History and earned an MBA in 1991 from Harvard Business School. After business school Franz was awarded a Robert Bosch Fellowship and worked at the German Central Bank in Frankfurt. Franz is married to his college classmate and they have four grown children.
