Peter Calkins
Biography: Peter Calkins #207975 December 2002 A seasoned real estate executive with deep experience in the planning, development and management of mixed-use, technology-focused projects created in concert with significant institutional partners, Peter Calkins recently retired from a 40+ year career highlighted by time spent at Forest City Enterprises/REIT and Ancora Partners. Peter was responsible for the development of over 3 million square feet of office and R&D space, primarily dedicated to the life science industry and created in collaboration with leading academic and medical institutions. At University Park at MIT, an award-winning campus development in Cambridge, MA, Peter led the development process for a series of research buildings for Millennium Pharmaceuticals / Takeda, for other smaller-but-growing biotech organizations, and for a unique facility for the Partners Healthcare System (now Mass General Brigham) that brought together in one collaborative location researchers from both the Mass General and the Brigham & Williams Hospitals. In collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania, he led the team that converted an abandoned industrial building into the Penn Translational Research Laboratory, the university’s first translational medicine facility and home to the Perelman School of Medicine’s Gene Therapy Program, while in Baltimore, Peter guided planning and development for the Science + Technology Park at Johns Hopkins. After helping Forest City launch the commercial side of The Yards in Washington, DC, Peter devoted the final years of his career to helping Ancora Partners build a pipeline of development with a particular focus on projects in Providence, RI and New Haven, CT.
