Mick Nelson

Biography: Dr. Mick Nelson is the founder and CEO of Nelson Community Partners, an urban development consulting firm based in Nashville, Tennessee. He earned his doctorate from Vanderbilt University, where he focused on affordable housing policy, real estate analysis, and urban development patterns. While there, he joined community advocates in working towards establishing the Barnes Fund for Affordable Housing in Nashville. Mick has expertise in financial analysis, asset management, and development of residential and commercial real estate, with a particular focus on increasing affordability and public-private partnerships. He previously worked for the Tennessee Housing Development Agency where he oversaw major asset management, strategic planning, and research projects. He has also taught undergraduate and graduate level courses in Community Development and Quantitative and Geographic Analysis at Vanderbilt University. Mick is an active member of the Urban Land Institute Nashville and Greater Nashville REALTORS, frequently leading committee meetings and speaking at public events.
