Biography: BRUCE A. Principal-in-Charge for a variety of on-going projects for an 11,000-acre parcel to position property for phased sale and development. Projects required all key planning and design skills ranging from site analysis and evaluation through code creation and permitting. Projects included Tenth University Site Selection, University Comprehensive Plan Amendment, University Village Conceptual Master Plan, Miromar Lakes University Village Centre Development of Regional Impact (DRI), University Community Conceptual Water Management Plan, Treeline Avenue Design and Permitting, Slough Restoration Master Mitigation Plan, as well as assisting in presenting sites to prospective buyers. · Riverwood¾Charlotte County, Florida. Planning Manager for preparation of the DRI, parcel development planning, and community recreation center. Urban Planning and Design · Estero Boulevard Streetscape Master Plan-Fort Myers Beach, Florida. Project Manager for master planning and design of streetscape improvements for a seven-mile corridor that is the heart of this beachfront village. Design had to weave auto, trolley, bicycle, and pedestrian circulation into a tree-shaded pedestrian-friendly gathering and identity center for the community. The planning and design process involved extensive public participation. · St. Petersburg Municipal Pier Redevelopment¾St. Petersburg, Florida. Project Manager for master planning and design, including coordination of economic analysis, all site and landscape design, permitting, planting, lighting, and infrastructure design for redevelopment of a major waterfront activity center to increase revenues and public access. Recipient of ASLA National Merit Award. · Krome Avenue Streetscape¾Homestead, Florida. Principal-in-Charge for extensive restoration and improvements following Hurricane Andrew. Streetscape restoration program included repairs and maintenance of special paving, lighting and irrigation systems, fountain, signage, and landscape. Design included extensive participation by merchants and property. · Key West Bight Development Plan¾Key West, Florida. Principal-in-Charge for master planning to expand public access to the waterfront, increase business and retail revenues, and improve pedestrian and bicycle safety while maintaining original historical character. Design of harborwalk, parking, park and play improvements, new marina slips and service, in-fill retail space, architectural theme for renovating existing structures, and restoration of historic structures. · Rosemary District¾Sarasota, Florida. Project Manager for the creation of urban design concepts, public participation graphics, and alternative land use scenarios for redevelopment of a 100-acre downtown neighborhood using "Crime Protection Through Environmental Design" (CPTED) principles. Neighborhood included a mix of historic structures, under-used commercial property, large vacant parcels, and a range of housing from single-family to midrise. · Frenchman's Cove Redevelopment¾Wayne County, Michigan. Principal-in-Charge for planning of $700-million mixed-use waterfront center and marina, and design of Phase I waterfront park and boardwalk. Planning involved extensive public participation and successful presentation for endorsement by Federal Regional Council and CDBG funding. · Milan Downtown Redevelopment¾Milan, Michigan. Principal-in-Charge for the market analysis, financing plan (tax increment financing), façade study and design guidelines, public improvements plan, and Phase I construction for redevelopment of a small city downtown. · Van Cortlandt Manor Restoration¾Rye, New York. Landscape Architect for historic garden restoration design. · Manistee Riverwalk¾Manistee, Michigan. Principal-in-Charge for design of landscape, boardwalk, and transient marina in historic downtown, involving workshops with downtown businesses and CDBG funding. · Ann Arbor Commercial Areas Revitalization Study¾Ann Arbor, Michigan. Principal-in-Charge for access and circulation improvements, in-fill and beautification, and design guidelines for seven satellite commercial districts. · Special Planning Area Zoning Ordinance, U.S. 12 Corridor¾Saline, Michigan. Principal-in-Charge for creation of special zoning district and development guidelines to encourage clustered commercial development in an expanding business district. · Garden City Downtown Improvements¾Garden City, Michigan. Project Manager for production of marketing featuring complex site design (with VTI). Commercial/Office · Short Hills Mall¾Milburn, New Jersey. Principal-in-Charge for master planning of site improvements to enclose existing mall and the addition of two anchor department stores. Project included parking areas, landscape irrigation design, hardscape design, and construction administration. · State Satellite Office Complex¾Leon County, Florida. Project Manager for site selection, facilities programming, planning, DRI, site design and architectural design guidelines, Governor and Cabinet hearings, and technical and policy aspects for the two-million-square-foot office complex ($400,000,000 project). Subsequent phase of project included design of a central utility tunnel with a pedestrian and auto promenade built over the tunnel. Parks and Open Space (Design of Over 38 Parks in Eastern U.S.) · Robert Allerton Park Traffic Circulation Plan, University of Illinois¾Monticello, Illinois. Project Manager for analysis of auto, bicycle, and pedestrian circulation on the historic Allerton Farm and Gardens to develop a master plan for the hierarchy of circulation on the site. The property serves as a conference center, park, and environmental research center for the University. The plan also includes 640 acres of adjacent Illinois Department of Natural Resources land. The goal of the circulation plan is to preserve the unique character of the site and preserve the natural systems and research areas, yet increase public access to the different areas of the park and link it to the IDNR land. Responsible for coordinating production of master plan documents. · Conrad Park, Boone County Fiscal Court¾Hebron, Kentucky. Project Director for the programming master planning and implementation of a new riverfront park on the Ohio River. The design of this 40-acre flood plain site involved extensive public participation to develop the program of uses and character of the park. · Gunpowder Creek Nature Park, Boone County Fiscal Court¾Burlington Kentucky. Project Director for programming, master planning, and implementation of a nature park in one of the most scenic and environmentally significant valleys in Northern Kentucky. The challenge of the plan was to provide hiking and horse trails, creek fords, and a shelter at the trail head with minimum impact on steep terrain. · Middle Bass Island State Park, Ohio Department of Natural Resources¾Sandusky, Ohio. Project Manager for the master planning and design of a new destination state park build around an historic winery building and mansion, transient marina, and unique natural setting. The project involves market analysis and feasibility, restoration and reuse of historic buildings and design of new cabins, camp site circulation, and complete utility infrastructure. · Pine Street Community Park¾Englewood, Florida. Principal-in-Charge for the creation of the master plan, including land use programming, site design, survey, permitting, and construction administration. · Homestead Parks¾Homestead, Florida. Principal-in-Charge for the master planning for five city parks, and site and landscape design for four parks. Project included (post-hurricane Andrew) programming, design development, and construction administration. Principal-in-Charge for the site and landscape design of a multi-phased 83-acre park and community center. Project included surveying, permitting, and construction administration. · Manistee Riverwalk¾Manistee, Michigan. Principal-in-Charge for design of landscape, boardwalk, and transient marina in historic downtown, involving workshops with downtown businesses and CDBG funding. · Riverfront Redevelopment¾Detroit, Michigan. Principal-in-Charge for creation of master redevelopment plan for multiple uses, including park, housing, and marina adjacent to downtown. Consultation on final selection from two short-listed sites. Residential · Wright Patterson Air Force Base Housing Privatization-Dayton, Ohio. Lead Site Planner and Landscape Architect for the redesign of base military housing, consisting of design and construction of over 800 single- and multi-family units, recreational facilities, and entrance features. · Michigan State Housing Development Authority. Project Manager for review and design/management of site and landscape for over 15,000 units of multiple housing financed through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority. · St. Clair Shores Senior Citizen Housing¾Michigan. Principal-in-Charge for site and landscape design and building configuration for a senior citizen mid-rise apartment development. This was the winning entry in a design/build competition.
