This report includes ten detailed case studies based on interviews with developers and property owners and examines their moves to protect sites against climate-related threats, their resilience strategies, their design and development processes, and their projects’ performance. Included is one example of a solution that goes beyond the building scale to leverage collaboration on resilience efforts between the public and private sectors.
The case studies span a diverse range of geographic locations and climate-related risks, from inland flooding in Nashville to heat and drought in Tucson and San Antonio, to hurricane, wind, and storm surge on the coasts of Boston and Miami.
Report Summary: ULI’s Center for Sustainability and members of ULI’s Responsible Property Investment Council undertook this report to identify real estate projects designed to perform well in the face of climate-related threats and to illuminate ways in which investments in resilience strategies provide financial and other returns.
