Leading equity expert and keynote speaker, Charles T. Brown, MPA, CPD, LCI, senior researcher and adjunct professor at the Bloustein School’s Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center at Rutgers University gives a thought-provoking presentation centered at the intersection of real estate, transportation, health and equity.

To encourage a collective understanding of the underlying or root causes of inequalities and oppression within our society and our industry, this presentation includes candid discussions on the impact of historical and contemporary injustices on low-income and communities of color, as well as a discussion on the importance of justice and fairness within the procedures, processes and distribution of resources by institutions or systems.

In answering why equity matters, this presentation highlights how our collective goal of creating a more equitable Tampa Bay has been and remains challenged by issues rooted in systemic racism and implicit bias. Charles closed out the program with a robust Q&A session and encouraged and challenged everyone to act on a number of key strategies to move our Tampa Bay communities forward together.
