Case Study Summary: ULI’s C Change programme identified the lack of a common industry methodology to quantify and embed transition risks in property valuations as a critical barrier in decarbonising the built environment. As a response to this, ULI published the Transition Risk Assessment Guidelines in June 2023, aiming to standardise the treatment and disclosure of transition risks up and down the value chain of real estate investment. However, the guidelines will only help break down this barrier if they become standard practice within the sector. To encourage their adoption at scale, ULI is working with its members to pilot the guidelines on their real assets and share the results in a series of case studies, with the aim of demonstrating to the industry how the guidelines can be applied and how they support the business case for decarbonisation of a wider range of buildings.
