Webinar Summary:

Flood events in 2020 were record-breaking in terms of magnitude and cost in the US, devastating many communities and leading to significant damages. In response to these intensified flood and storm event risks, flood preparedness and coastal management are increasingly at front of mind for industry professionals and city decision makers in waterfront and inland communities. Policymakers, developers, and designers are increasingly looking for new strategies to enhance preparedness, from investment in infrastructure to building design to floodplain buyouts.

This ULI global webinar, hosted by the ULI Urban Resilience program, explores strategies at multiple scales to mitigate community risk from flooding and storm events. James Moore (Jacobs), Jalonne White-Newsome (Empowering a Green Environment and Economy), Catherine Reilly (Brookfield Properties), and Lynette Cardoch (Moffatt & Nichol) share insights and best practices on fostering flood preparedness and  equitable coastal management. The webinar also introduces key insights from a ULI Urban Resilience publication, On Safer Ground: Floodplain Buyouts and Community Resilience.
