ID# 20174 MAY 7, 2001 GEORGE DE GUARDIOLA Mr. de Guardiola was born in Havana, Cuba and raised in Miami, Florida. He attended California State University in Los Angeles where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English and continued his Graduate work in American Studies and Secondary School teaching. He was an English teacher from 1972 to 1976 in the East Los Angeles area. In 1976, Mr. de Guardiola moved to Palm Beach County where he started his career in Real Estate Development. He moved through the ranks to become the executive vice president of the Vadia Family Companies that included the development of Wellington, the largest master planned community in Palm Beach County as well as others in Boynton Beach and Parkland. From 1991 to 1993, Mr. de Guardiola was the executive vice president of the Ecclestone Organization and its developments of PGA National and Ibis Golf and Country Club. In 1993, Mr. de Guardiola formed his own development company, de Guardiola Development Inc. He is married to Marlene and has a daughter, Lourdes and a son Jorge Alexander. Mr. de Guardiola has participated in and has been a member of many Palm Beach county organizations, councils and committees. Among his involvement, he has been a member of the Economic Council, the Community Developers Council, the Governor's Task Force on Urban Growth Patterns, Northern Palm Beach County/Southern Martin County and Florida Tax Watch. In 1995, he was the recipient of the Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce Business Leader of the Year award. In 1996, he was awarded the Excellence in Enterprise Award for outstanding business leadership in Palm Beach County. In 1999, he was awarded the Hispanic Chamber's entrepreneur of the year award and in the year 2000 was awarded the Jupiter / Tequesta / Juno Beach Chamber of Commerce Entrepreneur of the Year award. Mr. de Guardiola envisioned the Abacoa master planned community in Jupiter, Florida. The 2055-acre master plan incorporates Traditional Neighborhood Design principles throughout the various land uses ensuring pedestrian and environmental integrity. Abacoa was designed to accommodate the demands of the production builder and the modern day retail and commercial uses in traditional town settings. In addition to its residential and commercial components, the community is home to the John D. MacArthur campus of Florida Atlantic University, the Honors College as well as the Spring Training Facility of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Montreal Expos and the Jupiter Hammerheads minor league baseball team. Mr. de Guardiola is the president of de Guardiola Development, Inc., a venture that concentrates in the acquisition and development of Master Planned Communities and Town Centers in traditional Main Street settings. The venture is presently developing the Abacoa Town Center which includes over 400,000 square feet of retail and office space as well as over 400 residential apartments and Abacoa Business Center which includes over 1,000,000 sq. ft. of office and flex space as well as over 500 residential apartments and has contracted with the Los Angeles Dodgers to re-develop Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Florida.
