Karmi Palafox

Biographie : I am a place and city strategist with international experience in urban planning, economics, urban design and policy. I've been involved in the strategy and development plan of communities, islands, new and historic cities, infrastructure, and public places. Projects that I have led range from mixed-use, residential and tourism, airports, to post-disaster rehabilitation. I am proud to have led the strategic plans of well-loved places in the Philippines and to have played a role in advising governments including Detroit's tactical preservation of historic buildings and in activating international destinations in China. I worked closely with multi-disciplinary teams on master plans, planning reform studies and the design of a new framework for state infrastructure funding and delivery. I have served as Senior Adviser and Managing Partner of Palafox Associates, a highly regarded planning and architecture firm in Asia. I have spoken at numerous international conferences and written articles on housing, real estate, transport and mobility, and the environment. The work I particularly love is solving complex urban challenges whether it be generating more jobs in the regions, bringing in tourists to a destination, upgrading communities in disadvantaged areas, or rebuilding after a crisis. I am a chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute in the UK, a licensed environmental planner with the Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners, and a member of the Urban Land Institute. In 2014 I was recognized as one of ULI's 40 Under 40 in their inaugural list of the top young real estate professionals around the world.
