Biography:
Bryan Esenberg is the Deputy Commissioner of Housing Development for the City of Chicago, Department of Housing. Bryan began his work with the City of Chicago in 2013 as the Assistant Commissioner for the Housing Preservation Division. Bryan’s work focuses on revitalizing troubled neighborhoods and increasing affordable housing opportunities. The Multifamily Finance division allocates over $100mill per year to create new construction, mixed use and rehabbed affordable housing properties throughout the City. Prior to coming to the City, Bryan managed the Real Estate and Development programs for Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago [NHS Chicago]. While at NHS, Bryan helped build and sell over 100 affordable homes to working families and through his leadership, helped NHS preserve over 1000 units of housing while growing their receivership program. Bryan has spoken about his experience with affordable green building and vacant building preservation at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, the National Trust for Historic Preservation Annual Conference, Neighborworks Training Institutes and at graduate level classes at UIC and Roosevelt University. The Huffington Post, NPR and CBS Evening News have all reported on the work Bryan has done to reclaim vacant and abandoned buildings.
